Freelance Townsville designer, photographer and artist

Hello there!

My name is Maddi and I run Chlo & Co Creatives, a Townsville design and photography business

My journey into small business started while I was finishing up my Bachelor of Design at La Trobe in the small country town of Bendigo (in Victoria). After gaining some experience working in my local Swan Hill printing store, I ventured out on my own after having a number of people ask me if I offered design or photography work. During this time I created a lot of simple websites using the platform WIX for small businesses in my town, started to understand some of the ins and outs of social media management (aka Facebook at the time) and went on to complete my Master of Teaching at Deakin.

That was 10 years ago now (which is crazy) and since then I have learnt a lot about marketing (hello Instagram and paid posts), communicating with clients and how to create a variety of print and digital design work.

I've also added wedding photographer to the list of things I love to do, beginning my journey as a wedding photographer in Swan Hill back in  2015.

Recently I've had the pleasure of calling myself an artist too with my first solo art exhibition in 2019 called 'Land Currents'.

In 2017 I moved to Albury Wodonga to begin my teaching career as an Vis Com and Art Teacher out at the small town of Tallangatta (still in Victoria). I nurtured my business here and got to be involved and work on projects with many different types of businesses, which included contracting to the wonderful Ngarrimili.

I have now made the move to Townsville to start a new chapter in my life in the sun. I look forward to helping Townsville businesses with their design and marketing needs and exploring the new photography backdrops that await!

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send me a message or if you  want to follow along with some behind the scenes of my business and up to date work you can find me over here on Facebook or here on Instagram.

I adore cats and named by business after mine

As you may have suspected, I love cats, so much! I have two gorgeous cats and if I had the option of hanging out with cats all day over any other activity, I would take it. In fact, one day I could happily own my own 'Cat Cafe' where people can get their hot drink fix while playing with kittens who need help finding a new home.

I am a descendant of Taungurung mob

I'm a proud Indigenous Australian and am part of Taungurung Mob in Victoria, who's ancestral Country encompasses Seymour and Broadford along the Goulburn River. Taungurung is part of the Kulin Nations (Melbourne), which is very exciting as it means they take part in Tanderrum each year at Federation Square.

I am a fan of wine and their label design

It's true, design sells - especially if you're selling to a creative! I love trying new wines (white and bubbles are my favourite) and I like to find them based on their labels. In fact, it was my love of wine that inspired me to first start my paint and sip classes and share some of my fav wineries around the Albury Wodonga region with my attendees.

The Team at Chlo & Co Creatives

Although I'm technically the boss of Chlo and Co Creatives, there are few wonderful others that help make the creative things happen! Meet them below.

Janet is my lovely Mumma Bear.

Janet regularly assists me with different tasks for Chlo & Co especially with weddings and event photos, particularly with the set-up of the large digital Photo Booth  backdrop.

Janet also nicely makes treats for art workshops and helps with the set-up and pack up of classes.

Chlo was my beautiful, sassy, 18 year old, little, black cat whom my business was named after.

Chlo (also fondly referred to as Mo, Chlo Mo, MoMo, Madame and rat) supported me through my creative training and career, overseeing and managing Chlo & Co comfortably from the couch. Chlo knew plenty about art and design and always enjoyed bossing me around, so being CEO of Chlo & Co Creatives suited her skills and abilities well.
